  • My Heart Still Belongs to Her

1975 Hearing her on some TV show, MIDNIGHT BLUE was my introduction to Melissa. I was 17. Just today, in the middle of my 9th Army move I found some of her old albums, Yes ALBUMS, hanging on to them in hopes some day they'll be digitized. VERY pleased to fine Home To Myself, Singin' and all my other favorites are now available. Very few women have her rich tone and few can fill out a ballad like her (see Trisha Yearwood, Lisa Brokup, Jennifer Warnes). For a young single, college girl Home To Myself not only 'spoke' for me, but helps me stretch my vocal repetoir. Yes, My heart still belongs to Melissa.

Home to Myself is one of the lost treasures of the '70's. This album has the most extraordinary set of songs that blend together in a truly cohesive way. This should be ranked with the best of Carole King and Joni Mitchell. The songs, her voice, her soul pour forth. And it's extremely well produced with some great instrumentation.

  • THIS IS THE MELISSA MANCHESTER THAT I FELT IN LOVE WITH

This is actually Wave's mom. I was in my early 20's when I discovered this Melissa Manchester album- her songs spoke to me and described what it was like to be a young woman in the 70's- the sexual revolution... not taking yourself too seriously... having lots of soul and depth. The song "If it Feels Good" became my anthem. I was not too happy when she became more of a pop artist and compromised her individuality-- but I guess everyone's got to pay their bills. I'm downloading this now into my iPhone and will remember the complicated times of my youth every time I hear it.
