In one of the most unimaginitve genres, this album is the ultimate stereotype. R&B is as narrow-minded as country music and Christian songs in that they only sing about one thing and just use various metaphors for sex when they want to feel creative. It's really shameless and single minded. He just takes a random thing like the zoo, or like 5 songs about candy and just talks about sex using those terms. Super creative right? The i-tunes editor's notes talks about him using metaphors as if it's some kind of brilliance. It's like the music of an 8th grader. They both just learned how to use a metaphor AND only think about sex. And the vocals aren't much better than a random 8th grader's could be either. Lots of auto-tuned crap. Seriously, what's the appeal to going "look this is what a computer can do to my voice!" What's more, most of the time he sounds feminine. Kind've like an egotistical Toni Braxton. And while I'm at it, why does R&B and Rap so celebrate egotists? I see them as insecure wastes of time. If any of them were as amazing as they say they are, they wouldn't need to sing about it constantly and show off how much jewelery they managed to purchase like they had to complete the trials of Hercules to obtain them or something. It's not like he's actually singing most of the time anyway. Lots of what he's doing is just talking about random things. There is nothing worse in music than talking intros on R&B songs. Seriously, who writes this kind of stuff? Just talking about a random phone conversation and the i-tunes editor's notes calls it "poetry"? C'mon! Aside from being the basest elementary sex-metaphor, the lyrics are way too personal and unrelatable. I don't care what he's doing on a random Tuesday at his house. The weakest lyrics in the world are ones based on just relating random events like most of this album does. If you don't pay attention to the lyrics, it's pleasing to the ears as background music, but if you actually listen to what he's saying you have to laugh because it's some of the silliest things you could ever try to say with a straight face. Far from "poetry," they're hilariously stupid lyrics. It's clear that this guy will say anything to sell sex. All I can think when listening to this album is "do people really think like this?" So it's not offensive to the ears, but it's offensive to the brain of the listener and to the "artist" peddling this. It's just insulting to all involved. The more rap oriented songs on here featuring the guest rappers were better than the solo and more R&B-centered songs. Many of the guest artists were pretty good actually - I miss the old and cool Nelly like he was here. So there were a few keepers on this album, but the bad ones were REALLY bad. The only reason that I even gave this album a chance was because of his song Ignition (remix). It's basically the only good R&B song ever recorded. You only need one R&B song because they're all about the same topic anyway, so it might as well be Remix.
