I discovered Gabrielle Aplin a few months back, and literally cannot stop listening. She is one of my favorite artists if not my all time favorite. Her voice is beautiful and her lyrics are meaningful. Couple that along with the catchy beats, one of the best parts about her music, and you have a recipe for success. I am mostly writing this review to reassure anybody on the fence about the album. Just buy it. You will not regret it. This album has provided me hours of entertainment and will continue to, and will do so for you too! Also, check out her other stuff. I recommend English Rain- Deluxe Edition (just as good as this one in my opinion)

Light Up the Dark is definitely a change compared to her much beloved English Rain album. She is experimenting with several different new music style and for the most part, they work extremely well! In English Rain, the songs are mostly similar sounding (which is not a bad thing for me as I love her style) which means that even the “worst” of the song on English Rain is not THAT far removed from the rest of the album. Having said that, In Light Up the Dark, since Gabrielle is experimenting with different musical style, when it’s NOT working for her, it’s REALLY jarring. I have a few songs that I don’t even bother adding to any of my playlist because I know I won’t listen to them at all. Despite the few songs (about 4-5) that I dislike (vs 1 song in English Rain), this album is definitely an great Sophomore album for her. Some notables: - Shallow Love - It’s funny how my favorite song in this album is basically the song with her old style. Gabrielle’s voice is just suitable for acoustic music and this song is no exception. - Anybody Out There - Fantastic lyrics and this is one of the songs with her new more rock-y style. I love this song! - You Don’t Like Dancing - Fun song with great lyrics too! - What Did You Do? - Jingle Bell Rocks? - Together - Similar to “You Don’t Like Dancing”. Very fun song!

Always have loved Aplin as a singer. "Home" has gotten me hooked. I thought she would not change her classic country-style music. When "Light Up The Dark" came out, I was surprised that she had changed from country queen to pop princess. Good job, Gabrielle. Keep up the good work.

Just when you think Gabrielle Aplin can't top her previous work, here comes the curve ball. Man, did she knock this one out of the park! This song has brought some unfamiliar territory for Miss Aplin and she excelled at it! Everything from the moody "Heavy Heart" to the infectious, poppy "Skeleton", this album was perfect and well worth the wait. Can't wait to see what she brings to the table next!

Being a huge fan of her acoustic work, I admit I was sad to hear her sound on this album had drastically changed. However, after just one listen, I'm beyond impressed. This album is genius. Every track is truly exceptional and something unique, while remaining sonically cohesive. Possibly my favorite album of 2015.

I've been such a fan of her for such a long time. I'm so happy she's finally releasing a U.S. album. From what I've heard so far, she's created a different sound not just to herself, but to music as a whole.
