Also more talented. If one cannot appreciate the magnitude of brilliance in this musical landscape, they need just flip the channel back to American Idol. They need only to give up and concede to never understanding the genius of these compositions as their mind simply will not allow it to happen. I pity them. Selfishly, I revel in my fortunate circumstance as well. Live or recorded or listening while watching the film, this is modern musical mastery.

To hear all of this, but especially "The Grid," performed live, is simply a gift from the music gods. There is simply nothing else even close to this. Thanks to all who gave us this gift.

Despite Boolez's deepest wishes, Glass' work continues to thrive, reach new audiences, and touch people deeply. Perhaps his greatest masterpiece is Koyaanisqatsi, the visionary collaboration with Godfrey Reggio. I'm so happy that this record was made, commemorating the first time that the New York Philharmonic performed Glass' music. It's the firs time we get to hear the score in all its glory. The PGE is the core, but a full complement of strings (no violins), brass, and chorus provides for a thrilling experience. I was there both performances and this recording captures the magic. Bless Boolez, hopefully his parents will help him move out of the basement soon.

Koyaanisqatsi Last night I purchased this from iTunes, put my earphones on, sat down, closed my eyes & was TOTALLY BLOWN AWAY!! I have heard every conceivable version of Koy--live sound checks, live performances, many recordings. It's hard to say this is the best, because this is such a rich, many layered composition, one of Philip Glass' finest, but it certainly is one of the best. Go ahead, treat yourself! Buy it & plug in. You won't be sorry.
  • Love it!!! Thanks Philip Glass!!!

I only wish I would have been there to hear it live! I guess I will have to "settle" for this recording!
  • Mind numbing and pointless

The work holds even less together live. Trully this was one of the low points in the NYPO season. What on earth posssed them to do this? -Bz
