Like a fine red wine VP gets more complex but polished and fascinating with age. This is an outstanding work by true artists. All aspects of this effort from cover art, melody & lyrics, mix, and production are above par, well done! This is truly a successful balance... holding true to the cause but staying open to the masses which should lead to a commercial success. I know I used the “C “ word but in the end we all need to make a buck to survive. I wish them great success with this magical album.

This album isn't trying to go back and do what's already been done. It's a new adventure. Bands and members evolve, line ups change, compositions and styles express where the songwriters have been and where they are at. I nod my head to the songwriting here - very solid. Favorite tracks for me: "Crash Landing" which is a certain hit. "Overboard" which for me has tones of CSN and some of the great production/simple instrumentation and vocals of the 70's, "I Want to Bury You", "Here In The Dark" a nod perhaps to the old VP rock vibe and a great tune, "What You Did To Me" and "Don't Say It's Over" a nice flowing pop/rock tune. Take a listen and don't pigeon hole the band in the past.

I have heard every Verve Pipe Album from start to finish and "Overboard" serves to be one of thier strongest. Songs such as "Overboard" and "Latchkey Kid" are up there with songs as "The Freshmen", "Headlines", "Colorful", "Ominous Man", etc. If you are trying to find a fantastic album to "rock out to" over the summer, don't go buy another Katy Perry or Lady Gaga album. Get "Overboard" for great music and songs by, an outstanding band, The Verve Pipe.
  • Return to form

While not a return to hard rock, this more mature pop-rock album brings strong song writing and intuitive musicality. The core of The Verve Pipe's performance skills remain and this is a strong return to form for an evolving rock band. What You Did to Me, Crash Landing, and Overboard are especially good.
  • Another Children's Album?

I must agree with One Bad Ladd's review above. Although there is quality writing and musicianship on this project, it seems as though there's a bit of a 'Kid's Album Hangover' that is still lingering in these songs. I miss the edge and energy of their earlier work (Pop Smear/Villians) and hope that we eventually will get to experience that again from this fine band...

In fairness I only previewed this album because I was worried it would be the "mellow" side of TVP that the latest records have been. I hoped possibly a throwback to the Villains era style they were rocking back in the day. This is not a knock on the band or music, I am still a fan... this is just a little too "easy listening" for my Verve Pipe tastes. Just "not my cup of tea". (See what I did there?)
