This is my favorite Boulez. I like the recording of these Sonatas. I saw them performed at the Cleveland Orchestra a few years ago. They were electrifying to hear live. I think that mood is captured in this recording. There is a newer recording from 2005 also available in iTunes which I have not heard. However, this one is certainly good. It takes your brain by surprise.

You have got to be kidding! This represents music at it's intellectual extreme of the period totally lacking any emotional or melodic component. I know that this was the "modern style" for years and music majors may find this interesting but I doubt if even they would call it entertaining. P.S. I actually like post-modern music
