    Please do not listen to the moronic review of Mr Boolez. This is playing of the highest order. I have Numerous recordings of the WTC and this may now be at the top of my list. The phrasing is very natural, logical but exciting at the same time. Also, the counterpoint and dynamics are in perfect balance. And at this price, it would be insane not to buy this!

  • Prelude and Fugue No. 16 in g minor

    The trills in the prelude were rather coarse, and not elegant enough, however, he has excellent resonance, and makes every note he is playing very clear. He neglected to use touches of the pedal, which is crucial in a piece like this. The fugue was quite bland, however. Moreover, I know that Konstantin did try to interpret the pieces as how Johann Sebastian Bach himself would play them, if he was alive today. The piece is very musical, however, he must try to use touches of pedal, and playing the pieces just a tad softer. If he listened to Sviatoslav Richter's recording of this prelude and fugue (not that it is perfect), and made a combination of his playing, and Richter's playing, he would definitely deserve the Five Stars and would create the best album on the market. Congratulations, Konstantin.

    A deeper and more poetic understanding of these works is not heard elsewhere. Lifschitz plays this like it is epic poetry, and it is a live performance, so there is nothing contrived here, it is all real with a true sense of spontaneity.

    It's competent playing but it's a rather bland reading. There is no distinction between the lines and thus sounds muddled together most of the time. You might be able to get away with it in the preludes but it falls apart in the fugues. Move along and pass on this.
