didn't appreciate st vincent's rock until watching her live videos and her guitar performance, when you listen to her first album you pay attention more to the guitar sounds and also her clever lyrics, like drawing her face with a number two pencil. the background child chorus has some touches of sufjan and polyphonic indie/folk that is quite distinct from her third album which is full of synth and and more loosely playing guitar

I can't rate the whole album yet but the song Paris is Burning is fabulous. I heard it on So You Think You Can Dance and had to grab my iPhone and use Shazam to find out what it was. It is now my favorite song -- a mix of cool, hard and melodic, modern, like nothing I've heard before (and it seems everything sounds like something before these days). If you've found your way to this page, you probably don't need anyone to recommend her.

I first heard "Paris is Burning" on So You Think You Can Dance and I have become addicted. Shamelessly addicted. It's all I have been able to listen to for the last three days, and I'm definately loving the rest of the album. This is so good, and absolutely worth checking out. :)

Sounds like a modern day Kate Bush, only without KB's full vocal range. Innovative, fresh, fabulous pop.

annie clark is incredible. buy her music and see her live if you have the chance. her music is complex and beautiful, yet still holds an element of fun. it almost plays like a really great soundtrack from an amazing movie.

Like the love child of David Bowie and a trippier Sarah McLauglin with Freddie Mercury acting as midwife.

  • LAYERING OF SOUNDS

This album is amazing. I have continued playing it repeatedly since I got it. There are so many layers of things happening within each song -- layers of words, layers of sounds. I find myself playing songs just to hear a certain sound within a song, or a rhythm that reminds me of other songs. This album is for the adventurer in you.
