This is an amazing recording. The Fantasia has an almost mystical beauty. Truly an album worth owning.

These are two of Vaughan Williams's greatest works, and they are flawlessly performed by the Atlanta Symphony. Words can barely describe the depth and the vastness of emotion in the Fantasia and the Symphony. This album is a gem- a must have for anyone who loves and appreciates truly great music.

I've heard many recordings of these pieces over the years, and this album stands out as among the best.
Fantastical

This piece of work was fabulous. But, on the 16 of February in 2008, the NApa Valley Youth Symphony is going to do a version of Serenade To music the will be amazing.

Vaughan Williams' Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis yearns for an England lost for all time. How ironic that it should take an American orchestra - The Atlanta Symphony - under the magic wand of Robert Spano, to pick up on this and deliver a paean on how England used to be. Their interpretation of 'Fantasia' is at all times dramatically under control. It knows exactly when to exult and when to be quiet and contemplative—quite the epitome of England. The performance is a triumph, and one to be recommended to all lovers of Vaughan Williams.

This Vaughan Williams album is exquisitely performed, selections balanced between orchestra and voice. There is a majesty in the "Serenade to Music" seldom found. The "Fantasia On a Theme by Thomas Tallis" presents a break-through to heavenly strains seldom found music. No other composer quite mixes harmonic tones of innocence and maturity that touch the very soul.
Superbly Played!

Before downloading this recording I had never heard the Thomas Tallis song that was the inspiration for the Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis, arguably Vaughn Williams best known work. It is very informative to have the two pieces side by side. The playing on the cd is beautifu and that includes the Fifth Symphony, which is played with gusto and enthusiasm.
I like it!
