In 1987 I saw Mary Chapin Carpenter clean up at the Washington Area Music Association’s, WAMMIES award show, for her album HOMETOWN GIRL. Time and time again she went up on stage for award after award. Curious, I went to the record store the next day and bought the album. All the songs on it were so well crafted and if you’re a fan of hers, well, you already know she has an incredible voice. I understood after listening to the album just once why she had won all of the awards, I predicted she would go on to be known nationally, and I wore the record out. In retrospect HOMETOWN GIRL was the perfect title because it was pure music the way music was meant to be and it was Mary Chapin Carpenter before the music industry got a hold of her and packaged her to be a country singer. I highly recommend this CD to her fans and anyone who has an appreciation of good music.
