This music is beyond modern description, but is not exactly antique either. Listen to it. Imagine that you're in a Macon Georgia speakeasy after hours in 1931. The lead female vocalist and one or two of the band play something down tempo to please themselves. That's as close as I can get. I suggest buying one song and listening to that, the cuts on i-tunes are worthless.

"The Flood" is an excellent song .As a collector of "Flood Songs" I was thrilled to discover this gem. I haven't purchased the whole album yet but so far I've been listening to , "Gotta Get Right" and "Mess Around"constantly. They evoke the high lonesome country swing sound perfectly. ahhh.

so much of today's music misses the soul....this does NOT and all I can say is that it hits the mark...great folk

Beautiful, playful, sorrowful; describing the Eilen Jewell band requires many adjectives, each almost as amazing as this velvety voiced singer and her passionate band. Get drawn into this cd for Eilen's voice, but stick around for her lyrics, the band and the way it all makes you feel. Best cd I've bought in years.

Eilen Jewel has an incredible voice. The band's sound is folk, early 50's rock a billy and a hint of delta blues. This album is a great addition to any folk collection. I like Mess Around, No Place to Go, Blow it All Away and The Flood. This album is a bit more laid back than their live show. See them if you are in Boston!!
  • A must own for any folk fan.

Eilen Jewell and her band are incredible. Go see them at Tir Na Gog in Somerville, MA. They play every Sat night. We saw them at the Green River Festival. They were the best act at the festival. Download Mess Around and Blow It All Away for starters but the entire album is a must-own. -Tricky Dick
