  • Concept album, fittingly released Mother’s Day weekend

I believe this album will not be Jarosz’s most popular, but it is with me, just four binge-listens in after downloading yesterday. This is a concept album with lyrical and musical threads that are reprised throughout. “Morning” and “Blue Heron” are among the most beautiful pieces of music & lyrical poetry she’s ever crafted. The whole this album is greater than the sum of the individual parts (if taken out of context). She stretches herself musically with some heavier sounds in some of the instrumental “Interludes”, which may alienate some fans of her earlier work. But she remains true to herself musically and bares her soul poignantly in a stirringly beautiful, haunting mother/daughter story that is somewhat autobiographical. I just hope she tours Texas soon.

After havint heard bits and pieces of this for the past few years, I knew it wouldn't disappoint. It doesn't. It's both familiar and fresh. Introspective (with a strong instrumental focus), but also open and inviting.

I’ve been waiting 2 years for this recording. Incredible instrumentals and lyrics. Sarah’s voice is velvet. I can’t wait for the full release.
