I found the “Black Beans” album on YouTube the other night by accident. The album cover caught my eye (such a great picture that describes the album’s theme without even listening to it - genius), so I decided to take check it out. I honestly never heard of Choosey or Exile before. I’m an Old Skool Hip-Hop head, so admittedly, I’ve fallen off with the scene somewhat. All I can say is that I was not expecting such a gem. It’s not even Summer yet and I already plan to have this whole album on rotation. “Black Beans” is a masterful love letter to Black & Chicano California culture. This is by far my favorite Hip-Hop album of 2019. Well done Choosey and Exile. “Black Beans” is much needed and the timing of its release couldn’t have been more perfect. Salute.
