  • Lovely Program all around...

I disagree with others on this. This is a lovely program in tribute to the death of a close friend and seems to be cathartic for Levit, himself. It is, to be sure, an unusual program but we don't really need another anthology including LIebestraum & Hungarian Rhapsody #2 ... the "difference" between this program and others IS what makes it unique and treasurable. I hadn't known Levit, before, but he's got my attention. I already have 5 sets of the Beethoven Sonatas, but may spring for his version because this program communicates so completely and thoroughly to those "who have ears to hear." PS: And Sony's piano sound is rich, full, and beautiful...not sure how much Apple's Digital Mastering contributes to that...but I don't have a better sounding piano recording than this in any format...including vinyl.
  • Why?

A sampler of "dark"-themed excerpts? Why waste a contract title on something besides real repertoire? Maybe SONY demanded a "silk road"-style crossover-appeal-baiting mashup to squeeze $$ from those who like "piano music"-for-crying. How sad. I'm sure Levit's integral Beethoven sonata cycle will be cleansing and up to his usual standard of excellence. Smile!

Levity is a great pianist but this is a downer program.
