If you like Jesse Cook and Ottmar Liebert, then you will LOVE this album (do we still say "album"?). I have 4 or 5 of Benise's albums and they are all excellent. The music is very fluid. For the holidays check out "Angels" by Benise. Enjoy!
  • If you like Benise check out Alex Fox

Benise performed on Dancing with the Stars (4/17/2010). It is first I had heard of him. If you like his music, check out Alex Fox who plays in South Beach Miami. They have similar approaches, play and dance, Alex is probably older and perhaps influenced Benise. He plays like flamengo/latin Jimi Hendrix, something to see. I bought all of Alex's CDs after seeing him at the Breakwater Hotel in SoBe. I am downloading Benise's too. Perfect summer music!

I just found the wonderful music of Roni Benise and purchased two CD's, he is coming to the Oakland Paramount Theater in a few months and I will be sitting in my seat enjoying his beautiful music.

I find Benise's music very artistic, melodic and soulful. His arrangements carry the general feeling of flamenco and add a melodic flair that I sometimes find missing in traditional flamenco. I have 4 of his albums and never get tired of listening to his music. Some traditionalist's avoid him because they think him too commercial, but they are just showing themselves to be elitist and judgemental in their bias.

You may have read my review about his live album, and if so you will recognize what I am about to say. Mediterranea is an AMAZING! I bought it several years ago at his concert (my very first encounter with his music) and I was blown away by what I found. Since then Benise has been my favorite artist and if I were stranded on an island this is the 1 album I would take. I now own three of his albums and this remains my favorite. Some of my top choices: Mediterranea, Monserrat, Noches de Fuego, Guitarria, and Bridge of Sighs. If you're like me and the sounds of acoustic Spanish guitar get your blood flowing, prepare to be light headed and swept away. Enjoy!

Since there is no description or comments, I'll add some. Benise plays beautiful instrumental music with a Latin flair. There are several guitarists, other strings, and drums. (Roni Benise is the composer and lead guitar.) I saw them playing outside a store in Santa Barbara in 2004 and they drew a huge crowd. I bought this CD and a DVD of a performance that day. They are fun to watch and this is very pleasant background music to just make you feel good. (I think they've done a PBS special too.)
