A great year for Kurt Elling ends with his second album in only a few months! As usual, he delivers a combination of known and not-so-known songs with commitment and class. It was good to hear the Dan Fogelberg song, Same Old Lang Syne, repurposed. Mr. Elling has a knack for covering other artists' songs in a way that helps them as well as himself. Elling's arrangements are fresh and different, but they remind you about the original and make you want to hear the original again. "Some Children See Him" carries a beautiful sentiment, and some of the more traditional songs are all handled with care. The final piece, sung mostly by his daughter Luiza, is a cute ending to a lovely new collection. Who cares if it's still October?
