  • Best of Bond, Best of Barry

OHMSS is the best soundtrack of all the Bond films, including today's current crop. It has the most nuanced emotional presence of all the other film scores and actually ascends to true masterpiuece status with glorious sweeping pieces like Journey to Blofeld's Hideaway and rousing set pieces like The Battle of Piz Gloria. The recording is good for the period, a little compressed sounding even on CD but the strength of the song craft and range of emotion in the performances really overcomes that limitation. This truly is the best Bond film score and may be among the best film scores of all time, right up there with The Third Man and North by Northwest. Highly recommended.
