  • A wonderful effort from both Adams and Salonen!

This is one amazing recording! This was my intro to John Adams, and it didn't disappoint. I recently read the score of this piece, and the orchestra, not least the percussion, is huge! The fact that this huge ensemble can be so tight in it's multi-faceted rhythms is nothing short of uncanny. The brass is nice and meaty, and the bass drum, like most LA Phil recordings I've heard, comes out beautifully. Wonderful recording, wonderful performances, everything is awesome. Mr. Salonen was one of the best things to happen to this orchestra.

One of Adams better and often overlooked peices. Powerful, hypnotic and colorful. A great recording, typical of all Nonesuch releases.

Adams's music is American classical: he is heir to our greatest composers by virtue of his timely music breaking temporal boundaries. This is a must-have album for classical music fans.
