  • a-ha's "U2 album"; only 2 good songs.

In 1993, a-ha was still having moderate success in the charts outside of North America, but had long since abandoned the bouncy keyboard pop that had made them famous. Apart from the excellent U2-soundalike ballads, "Dark Is The Night" & "Angel In The Snow" (both should've been huge hits!), this album is dark, heavy, and murky, with hardly a hook to be found. The band took a 7 year break after this to pursue solo projects. This one is for collectors only.

Wow, this album has become my favorite! It has taken me to the dark, deep corners of music; haunting. Probably their best album

This albums pretty good. Dark is the night is one of my top favorite a-ha songs. I nought the vinyl single of it. Move to memphis is pretty sweet. They REALLY should have performed more of these songs. Nice album overall.

Far and away the group's weakest album with the only real highlight being Dark Is the Night for All. Clearly this album demonstrates the group's identity crisis at this time. They would go on to create a masterpiece with Lifelines, an album currently unavavilable on i tunes. Why?
  • Arguably their best

A-ha's albums are so drastically different from one to the next that you cannot judge them as artists by listening to just one album. I found it interesting that the reviewer "Marlboro Guy" found this to be their worst and "Lifelines" their best as I see it the other way around. Maybe what it comes down to is generational preferences. I was just a kid when a-ha came out in the 80's but have continued to be a fan since album number one. By the time Memorial Beach came out in the 90s I was a teenager who was also enjoying alternative music. The darker, slightly harder sound in Memorial Beach will perhaps appeal to the early 30's and younger crowd. Personally, when I listen to Lifelines I feel like I'm listening to an easy listening album that could have belonged to my parents (Although there are some great songs there, too). The best advice I can give to anybody who is not too familiar with a-ha's music is to browse through their different album samples on itunes and find the album that appeals to you most. I'd be willing to bet that after that first album grows on you, you'll be buying all the rest.
  • Wonderful, mature album

Great, mature harmonies, the voice of the lead singer as strong as ever. I wasn't mesmerized by it right away, but the more you listen to this, more you like it. Now it is at the top of my listening rotation.

Love this album, Move to Memphis ROCKS! I just wish some of their later work like "Summer Moved On", "Forever Not Yours" and the whole "Lifelines" CD were available here in the states.

Dark is the night for all is absolutely breathtaking and so is the rest of the album. Thank you a-ha for another incredible experience through your music
  • Without a doubt the best A-ha album!

This song is littered with amazing tracks. "Angel in the Snow" is sweeping. "Locust" is haunting. "Memorial Beach" is . . . dare I say, memorable. Please do yourself a favor and invest in this entire album.
