I love this song! The version on her "The ArchAndroid" album with a guest verse by OutKast's BigBoi is a good version but I enjoy this one more.

This song has two of my favorite artists of all time, Janelle Monae & Lupe Fiasco. I'm just starting to listen to B.O.B. He can spit that fire. Who knew that Janelle Monae could rap??? OMG!!! love it, Love It, LOVE IT!!!! I couldn't have put together a better collabo. If you love REAL music, purchase albums from all three artists.

Regardless of which version of Tightrope by Janelle Monae you choose to listen to this song fails to impress. Even the music video is stellar. The production values, instrumentations, background vocals and dance creation and choreography are tight, original, inspiring and phenomenal. When you buy this song or video, with your headphones on I challenge you to close your eyes, sit back and relax, and see how many instrumental and vocal parts you can pick out. The bass guitar is off the hook funky and carries it's own weight with style and swagger. --It makes you want to dance like Janelle! The trumpets are structured and formfitting as if this song were a James Brown jam, and the background vocals are intricate, breathtaking and inspiring. Janelle's vocals are shear perfection and she never has a bad vocal moment. Her jazz-tinged vibrato on longer notes is amazing. Have you ever noticed Janelle sing LA LA LA as she enters Tightrope's chorus. It's details of perfecrtion like that which I love finding in music. The song itself is about venturing out in faith and self confidence, and doing what you love to do by starting something new and giving it your best regardless. Janelle teaches us here that we can follow or we can lead, but more importantly we just have to get out there. If you listen closely towards the end of Tightrope you will hear Janelle breathlessly sing repeatedly "happy birthday" as the song fades to signify she celebrating "the new you" she sets out to inspire with this song. This song is jammin and sticks with you long after it's over. The other day my facebook status was "Wether you're high or low, take a tip on the tightrope."
