Omen (Special Edition)

I didn't particularly like the engineering and production value. Soulfly, much like Sepultura, always had a raw sound that was identifiable to the Brazilian influence. This album sounded a little more like all the other hard rock bands out there. That's not to say, it's a bad thing. But, if I might make an analogy: It would be like taking the "Buena Vista Social Club" and sucking all the life and sound out of there music. No soul. This becomes more aparant with the remix of Refuse/Resist. Not original, since the song has been done through Cavalera's other projects. You can feel and hear the care, and soulfulness that went into those previous versions. Whereas this version seemed a little too "overproduced". Those are my two cents.

I don't what the other people are talking about, this is one of Soulfly's best albums yet. Epic, head banging awesomeess. If you like their last album, Conqurer, your going to love this one. A must buy for any metal head. I can't stop listening to Off with their heads

The guitar riffs and drums hammering sound ,are like a hurricane blasting through your ears ....

Another solid outing from Soulfly. Nothing ground-breaking here; just some good metal. Rise of the Fallen has some serious balls! Good job Soulfly!

Not their best work but still a good album.

the first ever soulfly album that i could listen to all the way through. all the bullcrap crazy stuff isn't there nearly as much (the tribal thing has been run into the ground) and it stays more to the point like old speultura records did.

I see a lot of mixed and negative reviews here and I don't know why. I personally think Omen is a great album start to finish. If your a fan of Cavelera Conspiracy you should love this. Greg Puciato from Dillinger destoys as usual on the second track and there's another great collab with Prong. It's pure shreddage straight through with no crazy Brazilian bongo drum instrumental type deals like older Soulfly albums. Jeffrey Dahmer may be kind of corny but to me, it's one of the best on here! Master cannabal!

All in all, it was a pretty good album. There was less chugging and more diversity in the riffs, but at the same time the songs were a bit more stripped down and simplified. The songs still sounded good, as I only have one real complaint. Any long time follower if Max knows that his lyrics aren't that complex or always that different, but they've always managed to be acceptable, in terms of what Max is trying to say And what he is actually saying. Last album it was about apocalypse and armageddon, and now it expands on that, but just like the music the lyrics are simplified, at times too simple. Some of the lyrics are to absurd and the lyrics for "Jeffery Dahmer" sound like an 11 year old wrote it. Other times Max is just repeating himself over ad over again in some songs. Bottom line is this is the heaviest Soulfly record and te least Brazilian/world muisic influenced. It sounds well and any Soulfly fan should pick it up. My track picks are Bloodbath, Rise of the Fallen, Kingdom, and Mega-Doom. The instrumental Soulfly VII is pretty good.
