Kirks first two albums were excellent blues albums. This one lingers between elevator music and funk 50% of the time. The other 50% you can hear an excellent blues.

It certainly is Kirk Fletcher's turn. On his third solo album, the guitarist is stepping into the spotlight after touring and guest starring for years. And he handles the spotlight with technical and vocal skill that makes you sure he's ready for it. The title track, “My Turn”, is a saxophone driven, melodic masterpiece, while “El Medio Stomp”, the opener, is a roaring dance number that will leave you excited for the rest of the album. “Way Back Home” slows things down a little, after the electric “Congo Square”, one of the two songs featuring vocals. The other, “Found Love”, is a sweet track, but still leaves you impressed with Fletcher's guitar skills. Fletcher has been touring with others and guest starring for way too long. My Turn is far overdue – he's an expert that needs to be front and center. Abbey K. Davis
