The entire Mahler series is very, very good. If these recordings mark the end of the bland, boring period of releases on DG Concerts, then I say – thank goodness! If this is the Philharmonic's response to the self-produced recordings that orchestras such as London, Chicago and San Fran have been releasing for years, then I say – give us more! It’s exciting to hear the power and energy of the orchestra back in their recordings again. In particular, I love this recording of Mahler 3. The brass sounds incredible throughout (especially the horns). Anna Larsson and the choruses are also very good. Maazel shines from beginning to end. I have listened to the entire series. So far, Mahler 3, Mahler 6 and Mahler 7 are my favorites.
