Bette's third album and, in retrospect, one of her finest. The whimsy of her earlier recordings is there, but her voice is in fine, fine, form. Good selection of tunes, from a a disco version of "Strangers in the Night," to Tom Waits' melancholy "Shiver Me Timbres" to a personal favorite: "Let Me Just Follow Behind." There's also a wonderful take on "Old Cape Cod." This is Bette before she went Hollywood. Although I'm happy or her success, I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss this part of her career.

By the time Bette released this album, I was already a rabid fan, having devoured her previous albums again and again. As with subsequent albums, each song is chosen carefully and interpreted perfectly. Although recorded in a studio, there is a rick, rawness to her voice that you just don’t hear anymore with the younger, overproduced divas these days. Thanks for bringing this treasure back.

This is by far Bette Midler’s best disc!! From start to finish one great song after another!! Especially love her duet “Buckets Of Rain” with Bob Dylan, Tom Waits' “Shiver Me Timbers” and the Patti Page gem “Old Cape Cod”. Would love to see a deluxe edition with songs left off the original 1975 release!
