I used to listen to this with my Dad when I was a kid. Brings back memories of road trips across country at night driving through the mountains, etc. What a iconic album and cherished artist. Listening now all these years later it takes on new meaning and shows us what music was compared to the souless stuff of today.

John Denver was amazing, plain and simple! His words paint pictures and conjure images unlike any other artist of his generation. This is a collection of songs with true meanings and messages, unlike most of today's music. Worth every penny.

I had the good fortune to see John just a little over a year before he died, and the last song he played that night was a solo version of Poems, Prayers and Promises, which moved me to tears. This album perfectly sums up his career through 1973, when the songs were all re-recorded (and for the better, I may add). The versions of The Eagle and the Hawk, Rhymes and Reasons, and Sunshine on My Shoulders that are found here, are just so far beyond the original versions in their impact and sound. I also highly recommend Rocky Mountain High (my favorite JD album), as well as, I want to Live. I’m thankful that his music is now being heard by a new generation of listeners, and that his activism in protecting Mother Earth will continue to inspire us all for decades to come. We miss you John!!
  • One of the greats

I've never been a fan of country music but John Denver is one of the greatest musicians of all time. I've been listening to him since i was 4 with my Mom in the car. His lyrics are so peaceful. 12 years later he is still incredible to me.

Johns songs help you to reflect with things that have happened in your life. His songs make you whole. Ups and downs it makes you appreciate life. Wish I could have met him. You can't help but look at nature outdoors and feel good. Thanks to his family with some of his inspirations.

  • Why is this country?

Everyone I know considers John Denver Folk/Rock/Country. It does not sound like commercial country
