When Crazy by Gnarls Barkley was first released my impression was that it was a really thoughtful song with a good execution by the artist. When I discovered the cover version of Crazy by Shawn Colvin the other day, I had to rearrange my thinking. While the video version of the song by Gnarls Barkley makes that version quite memorable, I felt that this newer version by Shawn falls into that rare category where the cover version exceeded the original; no disrespect to Gnarls Barkley. Shawn Colvin has a distinct and excellent voice, and while i don't know that she is doing the guitar work on this rendition, I do know from hearing her in concert that she is more than capable of playing quality guitar. Either way, she nails it with her rendition of this song, and it is well worth your money. If you are in doubt, take the word of a perfect stranger and buy this one!

I remember hearing about this song for the first time from Shawn. She was in love with it, and now I'm in love with her version. When she hits your heart, she hits big, and this song is exactly why she's the greatest. Talent and pain and soul in one voice.

As good as the original, Colvin's rendition of "Crazy" delivers a soothing mix of acoustic picks on the 6 string laced with her easy vocals. A must have for any acoustic lover!

Great version of this song. Slower and softer than the Record of the Year nominee, it really gets you singing along.

Shawn Colvin chooses wonderful songs to cover and she always gives them her own spin. This is the case with "Crazy". She makes it folky and if you had never heard Gnarls Barkley's version, you'd have thought it was the first time it was ever interpreted. Excellent job!
  • a respectable effort

Colvin joins the 5,000 other artists who have already capitalized on the immense popularity of this song, yet manages to remain distinctive in her take. her vocals are restrained, yet don't sacrifice the earnestness of the original recording. the guitar keeps up a solid pace that plays a cat-and-mouse catch up game with the lyrics, but give an overall soothing and introspective feel to the song. colvin decides to cut the song a bit short at 3:30, a move that leaves the listener wanting a bit more, but not too upset. all in all, a respectable effort for an apparently just-for-fun single effort by this talented singer-songwriter.

Shawn brings a lyrical bent to the song made so popular by Knarls Barkley. A smoother, more mellow vibe that is great to listen to and well worth a listen.
