  • One of the Great Concert Albums of the decade...

Whether you're a fan or not, you cannot deny the real energy, spirit and fun that Streisand puts into this concert. She was apparently mortified before the concert and maybe that fear, as has been the case with so many other great performing artists, is why her renditions of these songs feels so vibrant, heartfelt and true. It makes you long for the days when a performer could carry a show just on their talent and without all the pyrotechnics.

This live recording brings Barbra's work from early in her career to it's then present stage together and the shift in styles required a tricky sequence of songs that work very well. She was suffering from crippling stage fright at this point but her vocal delivery hides it well, her monologue is funny and relaxed. The fact that she was smoking pot on stage may have contributed to her mellowness. Barbra was listening to pop music and she must've liked the Carpenters, she covered their cover of "Sing" and she recorded "We've Only Just Begun" but that song would remain in the can until her "Just For The Record" anthology was released. Barbra returns to the songwriter flavor of the seventies Carole King for a few covers, Track 6 would find a home on Barbra's "Greatest Hits 2" lp. Overall Barbra does a great concert and the audience is loving every moment, the applause is non-stop. The mastering of this cd is excellent.
