Igor Stravinsky was a brilliant man, he wrote some of the best pieces of music to ever see the light of day, and I finally rediscover it, eight years later. If you're a fan of classical music, do not hesitate to check out some of Stravinsky's work. You'll love it, I cannot guarantee this to anyone enough times. He stands out in my mind as my favorite classical composer, and a true inspiration. The legend lives on.

What else can be said? It is always fascinating to hear different orchestrations for classic works of music such as Rite Of Spring...this one is clear and expansive. And if you would like to turn somebody on to "classical" music, Stravinski's Firebird is a great place for them to begin. Recommended. The only bad thing about Naxos' library is that the recordings are so consistently good that there is a fear that people will take them for granted. Myself not included. Viva Naxos!

Okay, so The Rite of Spring was inspired by Stravinsky's vision of an ancient Russian festival of spring. It begins with playing, dancing, and games. Two rival tribes form from the group, and games begin. Elders enter, blessing the pagan rituals and the season. That night, the virgins come out and perform a dance of their own; from them, a sacrifice is chosen. She must dance the sacrificial dance until she collapses; literally dancing herself to death. Gotta love it. Oh, and the Firebird Suite is good too, but, in my opinion, not nearly as ambitious.

Stravinsky is my favorite composer peroid. I like the Rite of Spring and Fire Bird, but the over shadow his other work. All of his music is incredible, but theese ballets are all that hes remembered for, and I don't think thats right.

At first, I was just looking for the rite of Spring but then I came across this album which also had the Full firebird suite in it. I originally had this cheap version of the Firebird on my ipod but then I came across this, and I was blown away by how much better it was. (Not to mention half of the suite I didn't even know existed.) And of course, I think the right of Spring was great to. (Even better than Fantasia)
