  • OK but would rather listen to the real thing

Sure, Joe is a great blues-rock guitarist, but he doesn't even come close to the intensity and magic of Rory Gallagher (I saw him live back in '81 or '82). Why do a tribute unless you can take it to the next level or do something totally unique with it? Like most tributes, I would much rather listen to the real thing. Also, I think Joe left out some of Rory's best work: What in the World, Roberta, and Garbage Man Blues. On the flip side, it is good to see Rory finally get some recognition.

Would have been great for Joe to cover Wayward Child, Shin Kicker, Big Guns and a few others but at least it’ll get some people to explore Rory’s music
  • Joe does Rory justice!

He really captures the spirit of Rory’s music. Couldn’t get enough of this album. Only regret is he didn’t include some of my favorite songs such as Laundry Matt and Sinner Boy!

Most of these are better done by Rory himself, but it's great that JB shines a light on some relatively unknown artists like, you know, his last tribute album to that journeyman known as B.B. King. A few of these are just terrific.
