When I was about 7 years old (1973) my Dad played this album on the turntable at least once a day. I knew the Battle of New Orleans by heart, but learned to hate the music. When I was maybe 12, I heard in history class that Old Hickory was a nickname for Andrew Jackson, and was proud to declare that he led our troops in the Battle of New Orleans! Sister Mary Murphy was shocked at my knowledge. I never told her I learned it in a song. Dad is gone now, 21 years. When I heard this song, I had a flush of emotions, all sweet. PS In retrospect, it's a good song, and a great album:)
