  • Worse than the last album, which I didn’t think was possible

Having went from “A Fire Inside” the band should be renamed to An Emotionally Placed LED Candle Inside”. I’m having trouble finding the words for how disappointed I am by each album since Sing the Sorrow but also amazed on how watered down and boring these albums keep getting. Sink the ship already.

Absolutely snooze fest. What happened to this band? They used to have a sound that was unique. Now they just sound like most indie alternative radio garbage.
  • Evolving...But rather Dull.

I applaud AFI for their ever constant commitment to change. As a long time fan, I have seen the band go from punk, arena/goth rock, alternative, glam, and now post punk. I have really tried to like this release. It’s decidedly different from The Outstanding Blood and even Burials. The high points for me on this are rare. Tied to a Tree and Looking Tragic are standouts. Unfortunately, a lot of this sounds like AFI’s high bar is to age gracefully and not refer to their roots to often moving forward. (Like Incubus). Some of this sounds like Dream Car outtakes. The Cure/Joy Division/New Order influences are obvious here. Unfortunately, I find this uninspired and the band actually sounds bored on this.

In true AFI style, they’ve given us something completely new. The Blood album, their 10th, was a perfect blend of albums 1-9. On their 11th record we’re seeing Jade take a huge back seat so Adam and Hunter can really shine. Whether that ends up making this record a fan favorite or not is yet to be seen, but good songs are good songs and there’s plenty of them on Bodies. Far Too Near and Begging For Trouble are for sure going to be in the live set. Dulceria is something completely new. A very jazzy sound we’ve yet to see them explore. My sleeper pick for set list favorite is for sure Death of the Party. Very fun to listen to. All in all, this is a good record. Is it what the fans are yearning for??? Maybe not, but it’s still AFI. Maybe next time the aggression will come back a little bit and Jade will be dancing all over the fret boards. Until then, let’s all just enjoy a legendary band who refuses to cash in and rest on their laurels.
  • Why the bad ratings?

This album is beautifully pieced together. I love Dulcería the most. It’s a gorgeous song unlike anything I’ve heard from AFI in the past. This album gives me some major 80’s vibes-I ain’t mad at it. To those saying AFI isn’t the same—that’s the point. Who would want an album that sounds like a previous one?! Crazy. Evolve people.

1 good song and that’s it. The band needs to look for a decent producer. Someone outside the band! Sorry.

Watered down version of The Blood Album, which also wasn’t that great...

I really enjoy the new album but I wish the songs where a bit longer, from the time I start the album and getting into each song before I know it the album is over. Over all I give this album a 8/10 but if they could release some bonus tracks down the line that goes with this album and can make the album last about 45 to 55 minutes then instead of 36 minutes then I will give this album a 10/10
