Magnus has nothing to offer in the vein of Witchcraft with this record. It’s his solo material & IMO should of stayed that way or been a companion ep to a full on Witchcraft LP. Nothing will compare to the first 3 albums as Legend & Nucleus were both just ok... they deviated too much from what brought them to the dance. And for the record it’s not being close minded as I enjoy everything that’s true to itself in any genre, except maybe country, lol... I’ll put it to you this way you wouldn’t want to hear the Beatles doing death metal would you? Just as I don’t want Witchcraft cutting a folk album that resembles nothing of the full band. Poor release....

A welcome treat from one of the greatest vocalists in metal. This is NOT their typical offering so if you are closed minded and not open to change move along. This is more like an acoustic folk album. If you give it a chance, it’s very emotional.

  • A Magnus Pelander Solo Album

This album ought to have been a solo album for Magnus instead of a Witchcraft album since it lacks all the features that are unique to this band and why I love them so much. Witchcraft should’ve done what Windhand did in 2015 where early in the year Dorthia Cottrell released her (phenomenal) solo album that was similar in style to this album (a dark folk kinda vibe) then have the main band release a killer album in the fall. Even then, this album pales in comparison to Dorthia’s solo release. Especially considering that Witchcraft usually takes around 4 years to release a new album, I don’t want to have to wait another 4 to get another proper Witchcraft album. Legend is still one of my all-time favorite albums and Nucleus has some really great ideas presented. I just wish they continued to push that sound forward instead of releasing a mediocre solo album.

I guess deception is a form of witchcraft but there’s nothing fans of previous albums should expect to find here. It’s a continuation of magnus’s acoustic experiments and not metal in any form. Beyond that, it’s not even that impressive for folk music either so there’s not really an objective appeal outside the metal genre either.

This album is, frankly, hard to listen to. It is a very short (just over 30 minutes) continuation of Magnus' solo album (which I have only listened to once or twice). Mostly, if not all, acoustic and more folky than the rock albums we love from Witchcraft. I don't know enough about the band to know what the problem is but I would guess that Magnus is basically doing his own thing now but keeping the Witchcraft name. He's a great singer but can not carry the band name alone. I've waited YEARS for a new Witchcraft album but will be passing on this one and moving on.....(sigh)....I hate when this happens....
