She has done it again! This is her 4th album of covers. She has a way of paying tribute to a song and yet making it completely her own. Her last album of covers was The Devil You Know. A very mellow collection of songs produced by Ben Harper. Quite different from her first covers album, Pop Pop (1991) a jazzy foray where she blended standards like The Second Time Around and I'll Be Seeing You with covers of songs by Jimi Hendrix and Jefferson Airplane. Her second collection of covers, It's Like This (2000) was more pop/rock with a 70's production sheen. Again, she blended Lennon/McCartney and Becker/Fagen songs with classics by Lerner/Lowe and Hoagy Carmichael. All her covers albums showed her impeccable taste in music and choice of songs. It should come as no surprise that her newest album, Kicks is among her best. The collection again features a mix only RLJ can come up with. Songs ranging from the 1920's to the 1970's. It's a fun record and if you're looking for something to be your summer soundtrack, look no further! Also, check out the amazing video for Nagasaki.
