  • A Love Letter to Optimism

To be frank, I’ve never written one of these reviews before. But honestly, it’d be a crime to not share how I felt about this, so… first time for everything, I guess! I’ll start off by saying that I’m a HUGE fan of the Mother series, despite having only played Earthbound. So already, this song scores a ton of nostalgia points for me. On top of that, though, it’s just a good song; like, seriously, it’s fantastic. It does a surreal job of capturing the magic of the games in a way very few other covers do. And honestly? It doesn’t even feel like it’s “covering” the song. It’s more like it’s gift-wrapping it, Goddess Ribbon and all. That being said, I have one major critiques: The lack of harmony in the vocals, at least for the main lyrics of the song. The backup vocals were fantastic, don’t get me wrong, but with Adri being the only one singing the main song… I dunno, it felt like it could’ve just been so much more magical than it already is. And that’s not to say this song isn’t magical, because WOW, it totally is. I just think adding harmonies would just put it on a whole other level. On a more personal note, I really am grateful for this song. As a freshman going into college right now, this song gives me a warm reminder to believe in myself, no matter how many times I may trip over my own two feet. Thank you for this lovely composition, because it’s helping me get through a really, really tough time right now. To quote the song, as well as one of the original video’s top comments: I still believe in miracles, I swear I’ve seen a few; this song was definitely one of them. ☺️
