  • So cool

I grew up on DMB. Not ashamed either. I realize how one could tired of them being so retail radio friendly, and over played. This album is near and dear to me and its cool to see him with his take on it.

Of course one notice Dave Matthews is being celebrated here. And why not? The Dave Matthews Band have always been outliers with the cognoscenti for some time now, and undeservedly so. While DMB typically sound exceedingly polished, Ryley Walker and Co. reduce compositions to their basics, then add their own color. A perfect fan letter.

I'm a big fan of Ryley Walker - consider him one of the best artist/talents in his genre because of his creative mind and superb playing. This for me is an interesting project, with some quality results. DMB is not something I'm over the top about, so some of the songs fall short or a little flat, as I consider Walker the more interesting and unquie of the two. Still - this is a worthy concept with many high points - but on balance I look forward to more Ryley Walker originals and hope this is a one off on covering others work for a whole albumn.

Ryley Walker's work is always great, and the hint of greatness ahead (you can listen to the first track "Busted Stuff" now) makes me eager to get the rest. Already a mellow track, Walker adds his own flavor of smooth to the music, something that befits a late autumn evening. I'm also curious to know if it's a true cover, using lyrics from the original LWS rather than some of the revised lyrics that appeared on DMB's Busted Stuff album.
