Eclipse

Having watched Joey Alexander, like so many of us have on YouTube, start so young and evolve so quickly has been watching history in the making. For musicians, jazz music starts from listening, emulating, interpreting, then creating and constantly evolving. It happens to every jazz musician, at least those with true passion for the art form. Eclipse is his latest but really is just the beginning. Watching Joey evolve and improve is such a joy to watch. Some say that he is not on the level of Bill Evans or others because he does not yet have the experience is a little bit laughable. He doesn’t have the age and years of experience in the world or certainly often the pain and heartache that can color his playing and spark the creativity needed to be a great...but Joey is great..and more is definitely yet to come.

watching this young man get better with each release. He sounds very good on this one and having Joshua Redman on a few songs even helps raise the performance to a high level. I think he will grow into a very good jazz piano player. Give this one a listen and than buy it and support this new artist. Uncle Joe's Tunz!

Surely Joey Alexander's most complete record in his still very short career -- it doesn't hurt to have the help of Joshua Redman, whose contribution on Faithful make it one of the standout tracks. So much of jazz music is about interpreting the work of others, while making it your own. Joey Alexander's music does not yet have the nuance that comes with life's experience, but his sound is clear, concise, and completely his own. While he is not Bill Evans or McCoy Tyner, at least not yet, Joey Alexander's huge talent is easy to recognize and even easier to enjoy.

Eclipse is such a enjoyment to listen to from end to end. Each time I listen to Eclipse it I discover something new. Joey Alexander represents the future of Jazz. He reaches back and plays classic jazz standards with a updated sound without loosing the true essence of musicianship. I enjoy and look forward to listening to Joey Alexander as he forges his way with his new muisc.
