My musical sweet spot is Classic Rock ... from the 1960s, '70s... even into the '80s. Beatles, Stones, The Who, LedZep, Kinks, ELO... you get the picture. Neil Sedaka represented the gentle pop singer of the early 1960s and we knew his teeny bopper stuff as part of the radio canon that played in our parent's cars. And then, in high school I sat in my girlfriend's driveway, very much in love, when the angst-driven "updated" version of "Breakin' Up is Hard To Do" came over the airwaves. And we'd coo like the old days. If you love rock/pop music... if you know and understand the history of the music... then you gotta know and love Neil too. He's a big part of the fabric that makes up the musical quilt. Hearing his songs is like hearing from an old friend, who knows the story, who's been there through it all right with you... It's the other side of the Beatles 'n Stones. It's the more innocent, quieter memories...
