Livin' on the Fault Line deserves a second look. The album has a definite jazz influence, with Patrick Simmons and Michael McDonald really stepping upfront. "Echoes of Love" and "Nothin' But a Heartache" are both intelligent, glistening pop songs that confirm Simmons and McDonald as first-rate tunesmiths.

Loved Minute By Minute but Livin' On the Fault Line seems bland, musically repetitative, and lyrically uninspired. The single You Belong to Me is worth having, but the remainder rely solely on the appeal of Michael McDonald's voice. It it not enough.

Not one of their better albums, but there are a few good songs.
