Step off, suckers. Going for the One will take you to the cleaners. This is peak performance time, folks. Don’t you miss it... Sophistication, energy, spirit, and soul. It’s all here. White swings for the fences, Howe sends us through the stratosphere, Squire sets it spinning, turning, roundabout, Wakeman takes us to church, and Anderson brings us to heaven. All of them going for the one. Can’t miss.

This is a step back from Relayer, but still a decent album.

More like 3 1/2 stars, really. I know Rick Wakeman is the greatest and all, and that this is his big return to the band. But did he have to mash on the organ so much on everything? One of the things I've always enjoyed about Yes is that sense of SPACE in their music. Wakeman's relentless organ assault, particularly on Going For The One, the title track, just makes everything sound cluttered. If it weren't for the presence of Awaken, one of my all-time favorite Yes epics, I'm not sure why this one is considered so much above the later Tormato album. Tormato had some missteps, sure, but some great Yes material as well.

  • Good but not great

In all fairness, I would give this an extra half-star for effort. Rick Wakeman is back and finally given some free reign, especially on Parallels. There's also some radio-friendly material on offer again in Wonderous Stories, and a great nod to earlier Yes with Awaken. Not their best, but far better than what was about to be offered up in Tormato.
  • A return to hits!

Now this is a great album with Yes returning to creating those great hits as they did early in their career! With songs like "Going for the One" (which sounds like a Zeppelin song) and "Wonderous Stories", this album became one that Yes would play live in its entirety! This album also saw the return of Rick Wakeman, who played a big part in making this album what it has become! "Turn of the Century" is a beautiful mellow song that can even put you in a relaxing and alternate state of mind. This is one of the best albums Yes has ever released!
