Roy Clark has worked with so many amazing talents that we have lost. The original recordings were not the quality that we have today so having Roy Clark release this work after 2000 preserves the best work.

  • Be Forewarned:

This album contains some great guitar and banjo fingerpickin'. But be forewarned, as good as it is, the track titled Dueling Banjos is misleading. It is a mildly humorous give and take, with some terrific finger pickin' interspersed with dialogue (it is, after all, a recording of a live performance) But it is not the song, Dueling Banjos. A purist might contend that Dueling Banjos should feature two banjos, but the piece can, and often is, played between a guitar and a banjo. Clark did a masterful rendition of it with Buck Trent back in the day. But, if you are hoping to hear a rendition of that piece played by one of the great fingerpickers of all time, you won't find it here.

I doubt I could disagree more with most of the "official" iTunes review for this collection. This is beautiful music by a grandmaster of several instruments. Roy Clark has been dazzling people for decades and this showcase album is a rare treat for those who've never had a chance to see him in person. He'd be the first to say his voice isn't what it used to be but boy do his fingers more than make up for that. I, for one, still love his voice and the nuance he can put into songs with it, perhaps in ways he wasn't able to do before. If you like acoustic guitar, fiddle, banjo or the like, you cannot go wrong with this.
  • Who writes the album reviews??

One would think, that in the age of digital mastery, Apple could have someone who actually knows music write the album review. It's not my favorite. Yet, I know enough to know that "hillbilly sounding" is not the correct term for bluegrass or country music. Itunes dissappoints again... All in all, if you like Roy Clark and his humor from back-in-the-day, you'll enjoy his endless wit and the banter between him and the band. Even if you don't like "hillbilly" music.
