  • Originality Lost To Pop Culture Inclusion

I have been a HUGE fan of Esthero for years… up until her last two albums. I talked to her once and she said that she didn’t like to be categorized as ‘Electronica’. I told her that her music had some Electronica elements, but that it was far more than that thanks to her unique voice, and production values of then producing partner Doc. Well, it seems that she has been determined to transform and depart from any remnants that made her great. I think as artists evolution is natural, but when artists abandon all the elements that make them special, it is a tremendous misstep. Here, she has gone completely Pop and as a result sounds like every other aspiring starlet in the Pop arena. Artists must be allowed to grow and evolve, but this change signifies a devolution for me. Another one bites the dust. It’s a shame.

ESTHERO IS QUEEN. THE MOST COPIED, LOVED & COVETED ARTIST OUT. She is the real deal. Her work speaks for itself years to come. As Sia was suddenly discovered, so will Esthero. She's ICONIC.

I love Esthero’s music so much I almost feel mad at myself that I can’t get into this body of work. It’s neat to hear Esthero on a different kind of style — and that’s fine, but the past albums I at least was wowed and delighted.
  • Wonderful.

I bought this album as part of a crowd fund to distribute the album and that I should get around to the review! First, Esthero reads her reviews here and some of y'all need to have several seats because some of the comments are just rude. Is this album all I wanted it to be? No. But it is what Esthero was feeling and what she wanted it to be. I like it. It grows on you. Need more, please. :)

This sounds like P!nk B-sides. I know times change and artist evovle but dag, Breathe From Another changed my life. This barely made me tap my feet. The same can be said for a lot of artist who made trip-hop/jazz/lounge music in the 90s (looking extra hard at Zero 7 and Portishead). I've been waiting for someone to go full circle but I guess I'm tired of doing that and should just let go. That era of music might never come back around.
  • Not the Esthero we used to know

As soon as a track from "everything is expensive" popped up on my Pandora I raced over to iTunes to check out the new album, wondering how I could have possibly missed new Esthero for so long. Now I kinda wish I had. I pretty much own everything she has put out until now and I've seen her live - absolutely amazing if you get the chance - but this album lacks the punch, power and groove of her other discs. Her vocals seem somehow lazy and lackluster, like she is giving up mid-track, and the accompaniments are sub-par. Supernatural has everything I avoid from from the Avril Lavigne crowd, and I am baffled by the choice to auto tune one of the smoothest, most pure voices ever recorded. I enjoyed Never gonna let you go, and I'll pick up the single for sure, but I won't be buying "Everything is expensive". Who wants an album on which you are going to skip 3/4ths of the tracks? If you want to be blown away, pick up some nice headphones and buy "Breath from Another" or "Wicked Little Girls", or even "We R in need of a Musical Revolution". Esthero's sings like no other, a buttery, jazzy crooner that is both sultry and in-your-face rebellious at the same time. Unfortunately on "E is E"' she just sounds tired and out of ideas.

Listening to the old Esthero to prepare for this one, but what is this? I hate to sound negative because I love Esthero, but honestly, I regret this. Esthero I know harmonized a new creative melody which made my dates love me more. Compare "Lounge", "Superheroes", "Torchure" (etc) then listen to this!!!! I support this because her old albums are classics, and if she performed live, I'd still attend...I just hope that she sings nothing from this album. Esthero, I love u (not anymore), I was the first to bring your album to New Orleans, but for the safety of your reputation, I'll keep this on the low. By the way, I pledged for my copy. So disappointed at this wait. But I will still continue to support you. This is not sabotage, just a hurt fan. ....and after this comment, I was bashed on twitter! So to all her old fans....this AIN'T what you think it is! TRASH TRASH TRASH! No more euphemisms!

I'm giving three stars because of the lyrics, but I am disappointed. Her vocals in this album doesn't give her any justice to her talent. I like the song "Go," but if I wanted to hear it this way, I would have downloaded another artist. I don't want to completely bash on her because she is a person and people grow ad sometimes they grow in different ways. But, it just seems her emotion in her singing format sound as raw in this one. That's what I loved in all her previous albums and singles.
