Having listened to other (newer) Amon Amarth albums and enjoying them thoroughly, I was eager to listen to some of their older tracks and see how they evolved into the rocking metal band they are today. After my first listen, I experienced a disqueting sense of disappointment: this album is simply a different style than other more popular ones, containing more (it seemed to me) black-metal elements and less of the melodic death metal that made their later work so appealing to me. Having listened again, it is certainly not a bad album, but in my opinion, it is simply not as engaging as I would have expected.

This is a really good album but some songs have horrible vocals and bad drums that can't keep speed but there are alot of great songs on the album the guitar is amazing the bass follows the guitar but it sounds awesome and all the songs have great riffs if you like Amon Amarth you should definatly get this also some songs have great vocals and drums

Ah the first Amon Amarth album, its pritty primitive but it shows how this band has come a long way to be the viking metal heavyweight they are now. I think this album still ranks as one of their best, it has the old school viking black metal sound to it. Its diffrent then what fans of the new material might expect, but its worth buying regardless.

I really enjoyed Amon Amarth's debut, Sorrow Throughout The Nine Worlds, and I can easily say that anyone who enjoyed that will fall in love with this. The band as a whole has grown immensely and have produced a highly polished swedish death metal album that will be played in my car or on my iPod over and over. Again, they take the direction of traditional death metal with norse themes and more melody than most traditional death metal bands would have. This type of sound is perfect for my musical tastes, I could headbang away to this all day. The recording quality here is way better than in Sorrow Throughout The Nine Worlds, but still not exactly top quality. The singer has grown into my favorite death metal singer by far. The guitarists continue their addicting riffs and melodies and keep you hooked throughout the album. The drummer is excellent in my opinion, he's not afraid to experiment with different beats and such. My favorite tracks on the album are "Victorious March", "Friends of the Suncross" and "Amon Amarth". Amon Amarth is well on their way to becoming one of the best death metal bands the world has ever seen, but will anyone notice?

This album has such great riffs and such an excellent guitar tone that it's almost indescribable; the best songs are Ride for Vengeance, The Dragons' Flight Across the Waves, and Amon Amarth.

Doesn't break any new ground? This band is revolutionary!

Yeah, with a band that is soooo good and very consistant like Amon Amarth, it's hard to pick a favorite album. "Ride For Vengeance" is the perfect way to open an ablum like this. "Without Fear" blends in awesomely with "Victorious March"....ofcourse. Just stuff like that I look for really. Past reviewers have done justice for this album...GREAT RELEASE AGAIN!!!!

Growing tired of the influx of so called "metalcore" and "kid bands" like Avenged Sevenfold and that ilk? Need some straight on, aggressive in-your-face, grinding metal? Look no further than the mighty Amon Amarth. Their debut album on Metal Blade is one of their best. The opening track sets the stage as the powerful Ride for Vengeance begins fast and furious followed by the equally powerful Dragon's Flight. This album also contains Victorious March with one of the heavier grooves from the band, and contains the mammoth 8 minute masterpiece, Amon Amarth. There is not one filler on this album nor is there much chance to catch your breath before the next song explodes. Lyric-wise, Amon Amarth will take you back to a day when Noresemen sailed across the sea, road horses to war and killed their enemies with swords and spears. Vivid story telling is yet another of this band's strengths. While all of their albums are great, this one has a little more aggression than most and is my personal fav. So put down that mall-metal and see why the Sweds are leading the way in today's metal scene. Amon Amarth is Viking death metal at its finest.

this album cover looks like a huge golden dick

Well I have to say when I first read about hese guys I found it hard to take them seriously,but once I listned to a few of there song's I found that these guy's were a good band.A quality of this band that I liked was that they told a story in their song's,and not some stupid story of hew some losers girl left him.NO these guy's sing of why they have killed,who they will kill,and how they killed them,and other child friendly tale's.so bring round the kids play some Amon Amarth and have some money left over for child therapy
