Reviews

  • Irony, and comedy fused together & presented by musical lyricist

I wish people could see beyond being offended & realize that regardless of what he’s speaking about, Bo Burnham is incredibly talented. There is not a single person I can think of who is more well rounded as an entertainer. I can remember watching “I’m Bo Yo” on YouTube, several years ago and talking to my siblings about how if “that kid doesn’t make it, we’re all f^cked.” I’m glad he did. I hope he never loses sight of where he started & is able to avoid the downfalls all our great entertainers seem to fall victim to.

Bo's new album is very witty and relatable. There is a little humor in there for everyone. Anybody could relate to it and get a good laugh. I'd keep it away from kids under high school though. There are a few mature things.

This is a very funny album, but I can only take so much of it. He gets a bit grating after a while. Like the description says, he's a highly intelligent comedian/artist that really is great with words, humor, and rapping. A real triple threat so to speak. Like any comedian, though, he can be just needlessly vulgar at times since vulgarity isnt always comedy. Also, at times, he really is just needlessly pretentious. In other words, some of the jokes just fall flat either on the vulgar or the pretentious side, but most are good. He's definitely interesting. His voice does get to me after a while. He sounds like Andy Dick or Roger from American Dad.

Pathetic may be the new black, but Burnham's contagious self loathing is still more sad than ironic. His performance leaves one painfully aware of the gulf between articulation and articulate. Words words words aren't much good good good without wit wit wit.
