I purchased this album because I quite liked the Bollywood Bar Grooves this company has made, and thought this would be up to par. It isn't. Whilst this might fare well as background music when guests come over as mindless background sound no one truly pays attention to, it is extremely bland and lacks the pizzaz that makes Arabic music so dear to me. Some of these songs are so overproduced and synthetic sounding, that I find myself skipping songs and rarely finding one I actually can listen to all the way through. It reminds me more of a Buddha mix than it does of Arabic music. The "Classic" in the title is awfully misleading.

Sufis on acid! Melodic, rythmic, spacey. So what if I never ran into an Arab coffee house that was like an Amsterdam coffee house....

If you're looking for classical Arabic music, or Arabic pop, this album isn't for you. As the title suggests, it's a compilation album made up of an intriguing, laid-back mix of songs based on classical Arabic, New Age/jazz, and techno. I love Arabic music, but I like New Age, jazz, and techno, too, so I thoroughly enjoyed hearing how different musicians put together various components of these styles. As one might expect, the musical elements don't match -- they go. Examples of this are the haunting chanted soprano lyrics over a simple baladi rhythm in "Caravan," and the lilting, almost celestial melody and the brooding, heavy, insinuated baladi rhythm of "Arabesque Lady." If you're looking for an intelligent, modern, Western take on set-the-Araby-mood music, this album is perfect. It's Western enough to make it easily accessible to Western listeners, but Arabic enough to make it enjoyable for those of us who love our Arabic music. And because it's a compilation, it reflects the perspectives of a wide variety of artists. I'm delighted I ignored the naysayers and took a chance on it. I'd cheerfully pay twice the price. (But I don't feel guilty, because I've already been scouting out Yousef Marakk and Arabian Knights Project for more of their music!)

I regret I downloaded this record, I have already deleted 32 of the40 songs. I didn't find any relationship to arabic music or even rythm, most of the songs are mixes of other old records and even an israeli singer's voice from her Yemenite songs record. I don't recommend this item, it's a waste of money, no wonder it is so cheap. Alfonso PK
