I believe this tune came out 99. You know, when it was cool to play guitar skateboard and be in a band~
  • 1990?

I love this album. It's got a nice sound and makes you wanna dance but I don't think it came out in 1990. Pretty sure it came out in 1999.

I will keep this short because I could go on forever about the raw talent 311 possess in both lyrical terms and instrumental terms. Soundsystem is a balls-to-the-f**kin-WALL album that will give a first time 311 listener all the info they'll ever need on what this band stands for. I can't say this is their best album because all of their albums (even the new ones) have a style of their own that anyone can hear and appreciate. LISTEN TO CAN'T FADE ME and MINDSPIN and tell me that 311 is not an amazing band. Mindspin in particular is basically 2 songs in 1 just because of the dramatic change of mood halfway through the song. 311 are my hometown heroes (Omaha NE baby!) The world would be a better place of everyone listened to these guys. EXPLORE THEM AND LEARN!!
  • iTunes Fix this.

This is a sentimental album for me because it's how I discovered this band. Thank God for iPods because if I was already on my fourth disc of this album before I downloaded it digitally. There is all kinds of raw energy here, and could possibly stem from the vulnerability and uncertainty Nick Hexum has commented that he experienced when writing/recording these tracks. Come Original and Freeze Time are concert staples with lots of the hard sound fans dig; Flowing and Eons give me goosebumps every single time; and the other tracks are much more than just filler. I often recommend Mindspin to a newer listener as an example of how flexible and multi-lateral this band is-- fast beats and heavy lyrics up front and a mellower, more reflective tone on the back end. This, in my opinion, is the band's opus. Let it grow on you and you'll be surprised, or at least pleased, by how infectious it truly is.

This album was released in '99 (not '90)... I'm sure nobody else cares about this but I remember when it came out and 10 years ago is long enough (stupid iTunes making me feel old). If you're curious, I recommend Large in the Margin, Flowing (which, along with Freeze Time & Come Original, is a regular on their setlists), and I gotta say SA's in top form on Sever.
