While there are some good songs here, I think the production of the more uptempo songs (title track, Time Machine) is a little too bland. The title track was released as a single and featured the then red-hot Pointer Sisters, but the rhythm track isn’t punchy enough to rouse a lively lead vocal from Barbra or emphasize the Pointer’s energetic background vocals. Several of the ballads are good- Clear Sailing and When I Dream have good vocals. I love the contrast between Barbra’s and Kim Carnes’ voices on Make No Mistake. There are some keepers here- you just have to pick through the tracks.

Great song from a very good album. The only song that doesn't fit is "Step In the Right Direction"

Though not among the cathedral works, this record is still a fine adult contemporary pop album. Among the lovelier cuts are "Best I Could," "Here We Are At Last" and "Clear Sailing" - great examples of Streisand's shimmering vocal style. "Heart Don't Change My Mind," "Left In The Dark" and 'When I Dream" allow the singer to stretch out with a little pop/r&b flavor. The up-tempo tracks are just OK - substandard songs, but Streisand gives them all she's got.

Barbra released "Emotion" after "Yentl" and this lp is straight-forward adult contemporary and yielded a few hits. "Emotion" was the subject of a video and the backing vocals were supplied by the Pointer Sisters, "Make No Mistake, He's Mine" with Kim Carnes was a popular song, Kenny Rogers would record a gender-reversed version with Ronnie Milsap and that version would prove a bit more popular. "Left In The Dark" was produced by Jim Steinman and it has his production values stamped all over it, it could have been sung by Bonnie Tyler or Meat Loaf and sound exactly the same. Still, the video was popular. The closing track is a favorite, "Here We Are At Last" is beautiful, Barbra would remove her lead vocal and use the instrumental backing track to underscore a bar scene in the movie "Nuts." Like all of her 80's output, the mastering on this disc is horrible, it was meant for vinyl and this cd is a direct analog transfer, not remastered at all.

One of the more overlooked albums in the impressive careeer catalog of this great singer. Indeed, Emotion is not one of her best albums and contains no major hits. It also barely managed to crack the top 20 when originally released in 1984. The best song on the album is the duet with Kim Carnes. Other highlights include Left In The Dark which was written and produced by Jim Steinman, and You're A Step In The Right Direction cowritten by Babs and John Cougar Mellencamp. Most of the rest here is just filler and not really worthy of such a fine vocalist.

fresh, upbeat, sweet, romatic, sensual, happy, some of the things i got out of this album and yet, some good tunes to dance and work out to!
