Phoning it in

I’ve been a huge toad fan since the early 90’s. I love this band, plain and simple.
Although it has it moments, this is by far the weakest toad album yet. I hesitate to even call it toad, since Randy is no longer in the band, and in my opinion, that should have been it. 4 friends from high school creating music, and it was magic.
Now we have a new drummer, a very different direction, and, sorry to say, worse songs and songwriting.
The frequent modulation of songs is frustrating as well. Modulation is a cheap method used in music when you’ve run out of ideas.
I can hear it in the older songs now live as well. Dropped to a lower tuning so Glen can hit the notes, sung with little passion.. and as Glen captioned it under one of his pictures: “Headed back to work”.
To me it’s apparent it’s become only work for him, and the passion is gone. He almost looks bored on stage, and Todd & Dean aren’t exactly full of smiles either.
This is only toad album I haven’t bought, I’ve heard more than enough online already.
Great return for the band!

It’s been exactly 30 years since their debut, and they are still cranking out great songs that make you tap your toes and feel good. This is a must buy album for anyone who enjoys the classic sound of Toad the Wet Sprocket, or for anyone who wants music that makes them smile! Just get it!
