  • Better Days Ahead (Solo Guitar Takes on Pat Metheny)

As a John Pizzarelli fan, I am familiar with the genesis of this album and also somewhat biased. Except for tune James, I am not as familiar with Pat Metheny’s body of work as I should be and that is my bad. For me, a future dive into Metheny’s work is in order but for now I can’t stop playing these new recordings over and over and absorbing the beauty. I have long thought that John collaborates with some great arrangers. You only need to look at his album Lets Share Christmas to see an early example. As I listen to how this material has been distilled into guitar solos, I now realize that John is an excellent arranger in his own right. A moving and heartfelt effort.
